Gallery: 1914-1916 Description: Battleship Arizona Enters Service as American Navy's Biggest Vessel. The super-dreadnought Arizona (BB-39), latest addition to the Atlantic fleet and one cf the most powerful ships in the world, has just entered the service of Uncle Sam, fully, manned and ready for action. This addition to the Navy is far from a clear gain in strength, however, since it was necessary to strip three other battleships of their crews and place them in reserve to find a full complement of men for the new fighter. The 911 men who make up the crew of the Arizona were formerly on the Vermont (BB-20), the Kansas (BB-21) and the New Hampshire (BB-25). The Democratic Banner, 20 October 1916
